New Accounting-System

A completely new accounting-system has been developed and after extensive testing installed within the GHB/ASK-domain. The new system is running within the expected parameters for about 2 weeks now. At the current point, we dont think there will be any upcoming problems.

The system has been developed within the scope of a project study of the faculty informatics and will be presented this Friday in the HFU, Building C. If you are interested in getting a deeper insight on how the system works, feel free to step by and take a look.

The new system not only features a fully reengineered accounting system, but also advanced traffic shaping and Quality Of Service, to improve the overall quality of our connection to the HFU, for chosen services.

Also part of the development was a new HTTP-Proxy server with the ability to cache googlevideo or youtube, in addition to caching normal websites. This service has been installed on a local machine, an automatic webbrowser configuration script can be found here (only reachable from within the GHB). If you need any info on what to do with this script, please consult your browser manual.

Please note: the Proxy-Service is provided AS IS. It has been installed on very old spare hardware and is very likely to collapse under heavier load like experienced within the evening prime time.
Depending on how this test setup is accepted by our users (eg. you), we will consider requesting new hardware for it.

Any traffic that runs over this proxy and is not already cached locally (cache miss) is accounted fully and added to your trafficlimit. However, traffic that is already cached by the proxy (cache hit) and therefore can be served locally, will be completely free of charge!

As a last sentence, the project team apologizes for any downtime that occurred within the last few weeks, however they are sure that they were worth it.

Trafficdisplay

The Trafficdisplay is currently defunct. This will be fixed asap. Traffic deletion will still occur as always each night.

New shaping infrastructure test - Part 2

The problems from yesterday have been resolved and we are now running a complete new accounting and shaping system for a mid term test. The new system will be running aprox. until the end of the week unless we encounter serious problems.

As log as the test goes, the frontend functionality to display the traffic per registered host will remain disabled, however the total view will be fixed until wednesday evening.. - NetAdmin team, 2009-12-02 00:28:55

Scheduled Downtime on 13/14/15 Nov 2009

Beginning with Friday 13 Nov. 2009 13.00, we will carry out some necessary maintenance and testing within the GHB networks. While most of the time network access should be available, there may be some occasions where it is not, so dont freak out if your internet connection stops working. Planned end of the maintenance will be Sunday evening. In case you _really_ need a working internet connection on this weekend (e.g. for education purposes), consider using the network infrastructure within the university. Network unavailable for maintenance

Starting this friday (22th July) the GHB network will be temporarily unavailable for maintainance without special notice. Until the 31th of July we'll be restructuring the network bringing you Gigabit ethernet to each room.

Those living in the 6th floor of the GHB towers, please make sure that you clean the garbage room to allow easy access to the network hardware.

Enthalten sind darin: Wegbier, Kreuzungskurze (Berentzen o.ä.), Kühlwagen zum Grillgut vor Ort kühlen, Grills inkl Holzkohle für später, Bierbänke zum Sitzen und Antialk beim Grillen, die Möglichkeit kaltes Bier vor Ort (nach der Wanderung) zu erwerben (zum EK). Datenbankprobleme

Aufgrund eines technischen Ausfalls wurden alle User-Accounts und Hosts die neuer als 20 Tage sind gelöscht. Wenn ihr euren Account oder Host also vor weniger als 20 Tagen angelegt habt müsst ihr euch neu registrieren bzw. eure Hosts neu anlegen.

Due to a technical failure, all user accounts and hosts newer than 20 days got deleted. If your host or your account was created less than 20 days ago you have to create a new Host or Account.

GHB Sommerfest im SoSe 2008

Am 28.06.08 wollen wir (die SSV) gemeinsam mit euch den endlich auch in Furtwangen eingezogenen Sommer feiern. Mit jeder Menge Spass und Action vor dem 9er unter anderem Flunkyball und ein Bierkastenlauf. Für das leibliche Wohl ist bestens gesorgt und auch die Ohren kommen nicht zu kurz. Mary Anns Kitchen (www.maryannskitchen.de) und Special Guests lassen es live richtig krachen. Mit Beginn der Nachtruhe wird das ganze dann in den Speicher verlagert und dort ausklingen lassen.
